Sveti Jakob

The Sveti Jakob nad Katarino hill (806 m) is one of the most popular hiking spots around Ljubljana. The hike to the top takes about an hour along easy trails, making it suitable for beginners and the youngest hikers. The top can even be reached with a stroller.

Sveti Jakob, Katarina, Medvode

The starting point is in the Topol pri Medvodah village (you can park in front of the elementary school), which you can reach from three directions: from Medvode (via the Sora village), from Dobrova and from Ljubljana (from Podutik, via Toško Čelo).

From the pass with a restaurant, the road leads you towards the Church of St. Catherine. When the road straightens, around 100 metres before the church, a marked trail to the top of Sv. Jakob turns left from the road near the restaurant. The trail takes you almost vertically through the forest, enabling you to enjoy a nice view of the hill with the church.

The trail continues by a farm and above fields, under a wide panoramic ridge directly below the last steep slope. You can reach the church by following the steep path upwards or taking the less steep dirt road that goes almost completely around the hill.

On clear days, the top with the Church of St. Jacob, built in the 16th century, offers a wonderful view of the Sora plain, the Ljubljana basin, the Karawanks, the Julian Alps with Triglav, the highest peak in Slovenia, the Polhov Gradec Dolomites and the hills of the Zasavska and Notranjska regions.
